Kemp to Sue U.S. Justice Dept
Former Athens State Senator Brian Kemp, appointed earlier this year to fill the unexpired term of former Secretary of State Karen Handel, says today he is filing suit against the U.S. Justice Department. At issue is the Department's ongoing refusal to pre-clear Georgia's voter verification process, a process the state implemented in 2007. In a news release, Kemp, who is running for the Secretary of State's office in this summer's Republican primary, says "The State of Georgia will no longer watch the Obama Justice Department play politics with our election processes and protections. The Justice Department is denying Georgia's legal requirement to verify the information provided by new voter registration applicants."
